Film Making Resume

My name is Skylar DeForest and I LOVE cameras! Telling stories truly delights me to my core. I hope to create films that make people feel things, sad things, happy things, funny things… complex things. I aspire to explore motivations, create connections, and foster understanding between people who may never meet face to face.

The Rug

08/2023

I made this short to play with the idea that perspective and context can change a situation drastically. This dark comedy was super fun to make as it is a 7ish minute single shot submitted as an entry for the 2023 Single-Take Challenge international film festival. It was filmed on location in Boulder, CO. I wrote, filmed, directed, voice acted, and was the sound designer. With the help of a sound tech to record sound while filming and 4 fabulous actors (2 on screen and 2 voice only), it was named as an Award Nominee for both Extraordinary Cinematography and Most Entertaining Film and won the Best Making Of. It also was an Award Nominee for Best Young Filmmaker (Male) at the September 2023 LA Indie Short Fest. You can watch it here.

Lone on the Range

09/2023

I wrote, directed, filmed, edited, acted in, and did the sound design on this slightly goofy short. I had this idea for a parody western for a long time, and finally getting to go down to New Mexico and film a comedy on a western ranch was delightful! This film makes me laugh just at the thought of it! It was filmed on location in Aztec, NM. It was named a Semi Finalist at the September 2023 LA Indie Short Fest. You can watch it here.

Electric Blues

09/2023

I wrote, directed, filmed, edited, acted in, and did the sound design on this satirical short about a couple running out of charge in an electric car and needing to get “a bucket of electricity.” It was filmed on location near Las Vegas, NM. You can watch it soon!

In the Bag

10/2023

I created this 2 minute short for my application to film school. It was an interesting challenge to tell this story with no words. I’m grateful for the people that stepped up to help as actors and crew, and to Niwot Market, who let us film in their store! You can watch it here.

Jed’s Killer Landscaping

11/2023

I created this 5 minute short for my application to film school. It was a great learning experience and my first time working with an animal on set and doing compositing effects. You can watch it here.
